Last weekend, Marsa CC hosted new touring side, MC3 Cricket Club, and managed to end their nine-game losing streak.

On Saturday Marsa won the toss and elected to bat first. John Grima opened the batting and made a steady 30 runs. Robert Krishna made 14 while Mike Smith chipped in with 39 runs from 29 balls faced.

Ronnie Sacco batted well for 31 runs and his brother Mark made 39. Nadeem Ashraf put in an entertaining 57 runs from 35 balls faced including eight fours and one six.

The visitors' bowling let them down as they gave away 66 extras. Marsa totaled 289 runs. J. King was the most successful bowler, taking four wickets. The tourists had a great start with D. Jones scoring 51 runs and T. Green notching up 57 runs.

Unfortunately for them, Marsa put the brakes on their scoring. Only J. Knight (14 runs) and J. King (11 runs) made it into double figures. They totaled 159 runs, giving Marsa a well-earned win. For Marsa Sarfraz Ali took three wickets, while Joy Ghoseroy and Ronnie Sacco both took two wickets each.

On Sunday, four women played in the scheduled 20-20 game, two on both sides. Marsa won the toss and elected to bat.

Frank Spiteri batted well to make 46 runs. Nowell Khosla made 28, including two sixes, Catherine Clark scored 16 runs, Sunny Krishna 22, Nicky Lucas three runs and Sagar Krishna 11.

Marsa garnered 149 runs from the allotted overs. Sue Mumford bowled well for the visitors taking one wicket for 27 runs. The visitors tried to hit hard but only J. Rees managed to give Marsa a scare scoring 25 runs.

They could only manage 92 runs from their allotted overs. For Marsa, Nicky Lucas was the main wicket taker with three wickets for 21 runs, the highlight being her clean bowling C. Smith for a duck. Marsa won the series 2-0.

Next Saturday, the nursery/academy will be held from 9.30 till 11.30 a.m. The first game from the Globalair challenge will start at noon.
