Emirates Team New Zealand secured their place in the semi-finals of the Louis Vuitton Cup with a victory over the unfancied China Team in their round robin match yesterday.

Barring any jury decisions, the Kiwis will join US syndicate BMW Oracle Racing and Italian challengers Luna Rossa in the semi-finals.

With three round robins to go, the Larry Ellison-backed Oracle syndicate lead the standings on 33 points, one ahead of Team New Zealand and two ahead of Luna Rossa.

The top four boats at the end of the second series of round robins will earn a place in the semi-finals of the LV Cup as they battle it out for the right to challenge Swiss syndicate Alinghi for the America's Cup.

Desafio Espanol confirmed themselves as favourites to clinch the final berth in the semi-finals with an emphatic victory over United Internet Team Germany.
