In the first quarter of the year, Melita Cable continued to register growth in the provision of TV services in spite of competition, the company said.

The most impressive growth was in digital TV, it said, adding that over 30 per cent of its 102,000 subscribers migrated to digital TV, which offers 75 channels and a radio package with over 65 local and international channels.

Melita Cable chief executive officer Philip Micallef said the company was performing exceptionally well, only losing marginally in the lower-end TV tier.

The minimal losses in TV subscribers in the lowest tier were more than made up for with 15,000 telephone subscribers taking up Melita's Hello telephone service. The growth in the telephony segment was impressive with scores installing the service every day, the company said.

"We already enjoy 10 per cent market share in the telephony sector and I don't see any sign of this growth stopping.

"Telephone subscribers are realising we really offer an excellent service at much lower cost," Mr Micallef said.
