NYKIEL - IVY MARY STELLA, née Allen. On April 23, passed away peacefully at St James Hospital, Leeds, England, aged 85. Ivy, loving widower of Leon and a much loved mum of Christopher.

Photographic Competition

Din l-Art Helwa will be holding a photographic competition for diving schools, clubs, students, lovers of the environment and the public as part of its Blue Campaign to raise awareness of the marine environment.

There will be two categories for entries with a maximum of three colour prints entered for each category. One category is for photographs showing sea pollution or any other negative effects of human activity on the sea or coastal environment around the Maltese islands and the second is for photographs showing the beauty of underwater life.

The event will take place at Din l-Art Helwa's headquarters at 133, Melita Street, Valletta, on June 27 with prizes of Lm100 to be awarded to each of the winning entries for the two categories.

Those interested should write to Din l-Art Helwa, c/c Stanley Farrugia Randon, 133, Melita Street Valletta, by not later than May 15 and can collect application forms and terms and conditions from the same address. Dynamics Of Choosing Partners

A workshop entitled Unconscious Processes In Couple Choice will be held at the SAS Radisson, St George's Bay, St Julians on May 12.

The aim of the workshop is to explore the dynamics of what is going on unconsciously when two people choose each other as partners in an intimate relationship. The focus will be on understanding why people choose the partners that they choose, and in doing so often repeat the same negative patterns in their choices.

This workshop is open to counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, psychiatric nurses and students in advanced stages of training.

Raising Funds For Charity

The organising committee of the Friends of Richard Aquilina will be holding a fund-raising event at the Marsa Sports Club tomorrow in aid of Maltese charities.

The programme will start at noon with Mass. Tennis courts will be available for booking. A football tournament will be played on two pitches and a children's corner will provide a bouncing castle, ceramic pot painting, face painting and races.

A lottery will be drawn with prizes including flights for two to Dubai and Manchester plus a DVD recorder, a mobile phone and a microwave oven.

Tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes will be served from 3.30 p.m.

Bowling For Mother And Child

The next Bowl'a'Mama will take place tomorrow at the Eden SuperBowl.

To part-celebrate Mother's Day, all bowling mums will be treated to a free manicure at the Beauty Studio at the InterContinental Malta.

Between 10 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., parents can bowl for Lm2.50, while children over three pay Lm1.75.

The price includes parking at the Eden Car Park, as well as two bowling games, shoe rental, tea or coffee for parents and a squash for all the children. A supervised play area will be in place for toddlers, and nappy changers and bottle warmers are provided.

Call For Choristers

A choir is being formed to perform at two diocesan celebrations on the occasion of the vigil of the Pentecost on May 26 and at a Thanksgiving Mass following the Canonisation of Dun Gorg Preca on June 7.

The first meeting for all those wishing to take part will be on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Curia in Floriana.

The choir will be under the musical direction of Mro Dion Buhagiar.

Dwejra Fair

The 39th edition of the Dwejra Fair will be held on Sunday at Dwejra, Gozo. Various stands are being organised, including games for children and adults where they will be able to win prizes. Weekend breaks at various hotels in Malta and Gozo will also be given away.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to witness the EU project Life that is taking place at this bay.

RN Wreath-Laying Ceremony

The Royal Naval Association will be holding its annual memorial and wreath-laying ceremony at Pietà Marina Gardens, near the Royal Naval Memorial, on Sunday at 11 a.m. to pay homage to those who died during the two world wars. All ex-Royal Navy personnel are invited to attend.

P1 Grand Prix

The P1 Maltese Grand Prix will be held at Valletta's Grand Harbour on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 10.30 p.m. and on Sunday between 9 am. and 6 p.m.

The races at the Grand Harbour and the P1 fireworks display on the first evening offer the public the opportunity of a great spectacle at the Valletta Waterfront for free.

National Languages Seminar

The Russian Centre for Science and Culture, in Merchants Street, Valletta, will be holding a seminar on The Role Of National Languages For Creating A Multi-Cultural United Europe on Friday at 6 p.m. An open discussion will follow.

Letters Of Credence

President Eddie Fenech Adami presented letters of credence to Mark Miceli Farrugia, who has been appointed Ambassador to the US. The ceremony took place at the Palace in Valletta on Friday.

Art Lecture On Cross In History

Heritage Malta's Senior Curator for Ethnography and Natural History, Sandro Debono, will deliver a lecture entitled In the Name Of The Cross at Heritage Malta's Head Office in Merchants Street, Valletta on Wednesday at 6.30 p.m.

Mr Debono will explore the dialectic between Christian belief and the imagery of the crucifix through episodes from Malta's early modern history.

Mr Debono is a history of art graduate from the University of Malta specialising in 18th century sculpture focusing on the Spanish link in Maltese art of the period. He is the author of Imago Dei - Sculpted Images Of The Crucifix In the Art Of Early Modern Malta and other studies on varied and related subjects published in Treasures of Malta and other journals.

Admission to the lecture is free.

Canoe Marathon

The Malta Canoe Federation will be holding a 24-hour relay canoe marathon today to raise funs in aid of San Miguel School. The school caters for students with profound and multiple learning disability.

These students are wheelchair users while most of them are non-verbal. Some are now being exposed to using an alternative and augmentative means of communication, known as an AAC system. The aim of the marathon is to help purchase one such AAC.

The marathon will start at 5 p.m. and end the following day at 5 p.m. in Gzira.

The Sisters of Jesus of Nazareth will hold a fund raising bazaar at Maria Giuzeppina Hall in Bishop Emmanuel Galea Street, Zejtun from May 7 to 11. The bazaar, which will offer a variety of items to meet everyone's tastes, will be open from 9.30 a.m. to noon.
