Rangers wasted the chance to clinch Scotland's second Champions League place when they were held 3-3 at Hibernian yesterday while Gretna secured promotion to the top flight after just five years in the league.

Rangers have 69 points from 35 games in the Premier League, third-placed Aberdeen 61 after beating Kilmarnock 3-0.

Champions Celtic, who have 81 points from 34 matches, receive the trophy at today's home clash with fourth-placed Hearts (54).

Gretna won 3-2 at Ross County with a last-minute decider from James Grady, his second goal of the game, to win the second division by one point from St Johnstone, a record third title in a row in three different divisions.

"It's magnificent, absolutely magnificent," Gretna's caretaker manager Davie Irons said.

"Welcome to the SPL! The players did it for the fans who travelled in numbers today," he said on BBC Radio.

Gretna took 500 fans, 20 per cent of the Borders town's population, to the Highlands for the match which ended with Ross County being relegated.

Meanwhile, Rangers manager Walter Smith praised his players for coming from behind three times to earn a draw with Charlie Adam netting two of their equalisers.

"It was hardly an end of season game with the commitment shown by both sides," Smith told the BBC.

"We were down in different periods and fought back each time and I am delighted from that point of view."
