With the abolition of the V licence for entry into Valletta being eliminated from next Tuesday, all those who visit the capital from next Wednesday will be charged according to how much time they spend in the city.
The new Website for the Controlled Vehicular Access (CVA) system, available at www.cva. gov.mt, is the 'engine' that will enable the public to tap into a comprehensive set of services aimed at different categories of vehicle owners, ranging from single vehicle owners to corporate fleet management facilities.
Customers can log in using the details sent on the registration form received together with the first CVA bill or register in advance. Customers with E-ID can access details of vehicles registered personally in their name.
The CVA Website gives vehicle owners the facility to view and receive their CVA bills and statements online, without the delay inevitably associated with receiving bills by mail. The Website also allows for the viewing of the actual CVA photos, which is made available exclusively online (users may, however, view their photos at the CVA offices in Marsa or at the Valletta local council or order printouts at a nominal fee to cover printing costs).
Customers can pay their CVA charge online securely using debit and credit cards and view their payment history online. Customers can also download direct debit mandate forms to obtain an automatic 10 per cent discount on their CVA charge.
Exemption forms can also be downloaded from the Website. The status of any exemption applications and CVA board decisions can also be checked online.
Apart from bill payment and photo viewing facilities, the CVA Website allows customers to redeem and buy pre-paid CVA vouchers and perform pre-payments that automatically attract a 10 per cent discount. The Website can also be used to send and receive messages securely to the CVA call centre staff.
Customers who wish to contest a particular bill may also use the Website to initiate a contestation, after having checked their photos online. In the rare event that a particular number plate has been misread, customers may also inform the CVA operator of any suggested correction, which will then be verified manually.
A very useful feature of the Website is the ability to view unbilled transactions (i.e. entries and exits) within one working day of them occurring, thus making it possible to estimate the CVA charge for the next bill due.
The CVA Website has been designed for ease of use and accessibility in mind, and provides features, like large font sizes and compatibility with special software for persons with special needs. A special mobile and PDA version of the Website will be rolled out by June.
The Website can also allow users to manage their SMS subscriptions online, after having registered with the CVA operator.
