Impending parking problems in Valletta

I parked my car at the new park and ride in Blata l-Bajda a couple of weeks ago and noticed that by 9 a.m. the park was already completely full. Can someone please enlighten me and explain to me where the thousands of car owners who work in Valletta and who still park their car in Valletta up to this day are going to park after May 1?

• As I said, the park in Blata l-Bajda is already full from today.

• Most salaried workers just cannot afford to fork out Lm2.80 a day just to park their car to go to work every day.

• Using the public buses is certainly very inconvenient for a lot of employees since they would need to use their cars for various errands during lunch-breaks, after work and even during office hours.

• The ring road can only accommodate a very small percentage of the thousands of cars which go to Valletta every day.

While the Valletta residents are surely very pleased with these new parking arrangements, this has become a huge concern to all employees who work in Valletta. Reading in the newspapers that the ministers and the members of Parliament will be exempted from this scheme is an even bigger insult to us all taxpayers.

I, together with some 200 colleagues from the office where I work in Valletta, are very concerned and certainly not looking forward to the confusion which will surely arise on May 1. No one ever mentions or cares about the thousands of employees who go into Valletta everyday.

Don't worry, though. The election is not that far away and we have already decided to abstain from voting if a solution to our parking problems is not found.
