If a locality must be selected where high-rise building should be permitted, I would choose the peninsula of Bugibba and Qawra anytime. I would rather see a new high-rise, smart looking block of apartments than a worn-out three-storey one that was built in the 1970s or 1980s where the façade's main feature are golden aluminium windows on one floor, and a silver looking balcony on the next.

Moreover, Bugibba has no structures which are either old or of any historical value that may conflict with high-rise buildings. The same cannot be said for Sliema and St Julians for example, where such buildings stand side by side with beautiful old houses.

As for the Bugibba skyline, I invite anyone to stop over at Selmun Heights one fine summer night and value the magnificent views of Bugibba for themselves. It is truly mesmerising. Unfortunately, it is when you get up and close that scruffy and shabby buildings start to hit you.
