The Bible does not tell us when life begins and to hold a pro-life opinion is not secured exclusively by Christians.
A pro-life stance is also shared by Moslems and Jews as well as innumerable other cultures. Indeed, I personally know many self-proclaimed agnostics and atheists who are also pro-life.
It is science that tells us when life begins and it is natural law, that lies within us all, which shows us what is right and wrong. Science has clearly shown that human life begins at conception.
Human life is precious from the outset, simply because it is human. The DNA is completely human and the end product will also be fully human. It is science that tells us that the heart begins to beat at three weeks and it is not written in any Bible or Koran or Torah that I know of.
Naturally, Christians also have an added motivation to defend life as they see human life not just as being precious, but also as sacred in their belief that man is made in the image and likeness of God.
Evidently some feel that protecting human life is an imposition of religious values on society. In which case, is it being suggested therefore that we remove Article 33 from our Constitution altogether as this is a carbon copy of the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" and exclusively a religious value? Incidentally, Article 33 is the very article that gives all Maltese citizens the right to life.
Clearly, these empty, senseless arguments are not designed to enlighten but to confuse the reader. Like all pro-abortion arguments, on the face of it, their point initially seems to hold water, however when it is cross-examined with the seriousness that this matter deserves, these objections and frantic calls of foul play soon turn out to be just a load of steam.
