Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech warned yesterday that the government will move to ban the promotion of timeshare in the streets if tourists continue to be pestered.
He was replying to questions in Parliament by opposition tourism spokesman Evarist Bartolo who said foreign timeshare touts were aggressively pestering tourists in a way which was harmful to tourism and the timeshare sector itself.
Dr Zammit Dimech said timeshare was important but he agreed with Mr Bartolo's comments about the pestering of tourists. He said the MTA was engaging an additional two inspectors who were being tasked with clamping down on such behaviour.
However, if the situation did not improve, the authorities would have no alternative but to ban this form of promotional activity.
