As from this month, Air Malta and Lufthansa will be strengthening their commercial partnership with the extension of the code-share agreement to the Malta-Bremen, Malta-Hanover and Malta-Dresden routes.
With this new development, Malta will be connected to these German cities with a twice-daily service and via Frankfurt and Munich hubs.
The German cities of Berlin and Dusseldorf are also connected with a daily service via Munich. These services supplement Air Malta's four weekly direct flights to Dusseldorf and three times weekly to Berlin.
The initial codeshare agreement, which was signed on November 27, 2006, allowed both carriers to codeshare on their respective schedule services from Frankfurt and Munich. Since then the agreement has expanded beyond Frankfurt and Munich improving extensively the connectivity to the Maltese islands. A joint code-share allows the airlines to use their own flight numbers also on flights operated by the partner airline, and offer connecting flights beyond the hubs with own flight numbers. It is offers passengers full service treatment, seamless travel arrangements and connections to a global network which falls perfectly into Air Malta's strategic plans to tap into new emerging markets, the airline said.
Passengers can earn and redeem miles on both frequent flyer programmes. Furthermore, Business Class customers have access to the Lufthansa and Air Malta lounges. Passengers can also check-through their luggage until their final destinations on all Air Malta and Lufthansa flights.
Air Malta has operated to Germany since its launch in 1974. Currently the summer programme of flights to Germany by Air Malta includes eight weekly flights to Munich, seven weekly flights to Frankfurt, five weekly flights to Düsseldorf and three weekly flights to Berlin.
