Pat Riley plans to return as the Miami Heat's head coach next season after missing part of the current campaign due to hip and knee surgery, the Miami Herald reported.

"My plans are to come back," the 62-year-old Riley, who also serves as the team's president, said. "I've got three years left on my contract, and (Heat owner) Micky (Arison) and I have a great relationship. He has always told me I can work here as long as I want," Riley added.

The Heat, the 2006 NBA champions, begin this year's play-offs at Chicago today.
