Four Maltese students, who are participating in the Goldener Kentaur award, organised by the Munich House of Artists, are being generously sponsored by Lufthansa Technik.

The Munich House of Artists, in co-operation with the Munich Academy of Art and the Helsinki University of Art and Design, has invited one academy from each European country to submit four of their students' works to Munich.

The four students, under the guidance of Dr Raphael Vella, are Kristina Borg, Ian Coleiro, Lucienne Lughermo and Adrian Scicluna. All works of art will be exhibited to the public in Munich. The Goldener Kentaur (Golden Centaur) award will be presented to the winner in a ceremony tomorrow in Munich by the patron, the Bavarian Minister of Science, Research and Art, Dr Thomas Goppel.

As the flights for the four Maltese students from the University of Malta participating in this event were not covered by the organisers, the Embassy of Malta in Berlin took the initiative and asked Lufthansa Technik for help. The director of International Communications of Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg, Aage Dünhaupt, reacted immediately and sponsored the flight tickets for the Maltese students.

This shows that Lufthansa's commitment in Malta is not limited to investment in Malta's air industry only, but extends further to support even cultural activities of Maltese artists, especially of young artists.

Lufthansa Technik has been co-operating successfully with Air Malta since 2003 and its subsidiary in Malta has been performing C-checks on smaller A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft. Lufthansa Technik recently announced a new investment in Malta of up to €60 million on new aircraft maintenance facilities to handle large Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft. The facility should be inaugurated in 2008 and will eventually create 550 new jobs, according to Lufthansa Technik.
