Air Malta to codeshare on Lufthansa to New York and Washington
Charles Meilaq learns about the surprises awaiting visitors at this year's Amitex
Air Malta is currently consolidating Munich airport as its hub for the European network and beyond, offering an alternative to the congested Heathrow airport. The airline, in cooperation with Lufthansa, is introducing the Malta/Munich/Washington and Malta/Munich/New York routes, said Brian Bartolo, Air Malta's general manager marketing and product.
"This is materialising following the code-share agreement signed with Lufthansa at the end of last year, allowing both carriers to offer three daily non-stop flights to the Frankfurt and Munich hubs with connectivity to all German regional airports and offline European, American and Asian airports," said Mr Bartolo.
The advantages of these routes, together with other products and services within Air Malta's portfolio, will be accessible at this year's edition of Amitex, the Air Malta International Travel Exhibition, to be held at the Trade Fair grounds, Naxxar, between Thursday and Sunday.
Mr Bartolo said that Air Malta's portfolio was growing from strength to strength with the introduction of various new products and services during the past six months.
During a visit to Amitex one will be able to see for himself such products including the travel gift vouchers, birthday gifts in collaboration with Malta Hilton, and the successful "Early Bird" offer which closes at the end of this month. Through "Early Bird", Air Malta is offering one-way tickets at Lm19 (excluding taxes and charges) to 22 destinations. More surprises will be revealed from the Pandora box during the fair.
Throughout Amitex, Air Malta and Heritage Malta will be encouraging the visiting public to obtain entrance passes to various historical sites at reduced prices, aimed at further encouraging awareness of Malta's heritage.
Flyaway Tours, which have now become an established household brand among the local travellers seeking all-inclusive package holidays to traditional destinations and new holiday opportunities, are no doubt one of the main attractions at Amitex. The summer 2007 edition of the Flyaway Tours brochure is in fact jam-packed with attractive, flexible vacations and travel opportunities at affordable prices.
New holiday opportunities in this season's Flyaway Tours brochure include packages to Venice, Liverpool, Birmingham and Bristol, all at excellent prices. Flyaway Tours, as is the custom, have even gone a step further with Venice and are offering "two-centre holidays Venice and Croatia" in collaboration with Venezia Lines catamarans, only two hours away from Venice. Other innovative ideas are the river cruises from Venice throughout Italy and on the Seine in Paris at extremely attractive rates on full-board basis. Talking about cruises, Flyaway Tours also feature two excellent cruises in the Eastern Caribbean and Greece with the luxurious Royal Caribbean cruise liners.
As usual, the brochure also caters for families. Packages for all destinations have been enhanced, with even more competitive rates reflecting the airline's potential marketing campaign. Private homes at extremely affordable rates in central London start from Lm12 per person per night on bed and breakfast basis. Together with partner airlines, Flyaway Tours have this season re-introduced long-haul packages to the US, China and Australia with excellent value for money thanks to the strong relationship with Lufthansa and Qantas. Packages are based on two or three nights with a flexible approach to extend your stay or combine it with accessible destinations.
Resorts are a must in every Flyaway Tours brochure. This season these include the Italian mountains of Abruzzo and the Dolomites, sea resorts in Sicily, Cyprus, and Costa Brava with a vast choice of two-, three- or five-star hotels.
Commenting on the airline's summer schedule of operations, which runs till October 27, immediate Air Malta chief executive officer Joe Cappello said: "This presents Air Malta customers travelling from the Malta base with a choice of no fewer than 46 scheduled destinations with 200 weekly flights.
"The airline is reaffirming its stated commitment to offer both Maltese and tourists the best connections and service to and from the Maltese islands. Air Malta will operate a fleet of 12 aircraft based in Malta, one more than last summer, and three aircraft from the UK base," remarked Mr Cappello.
Mr Cappello felt confident that: "This summer should prove to be another exciting time for passengers travelling on Air Malta's scheduled network. With an enhanced schedule of flights, new destinations and lower prices Air Malta is making sure it remains the airline offering innovative choices to customers looking for good quality-value-for-money deals. Its offers in foreign markets are equally attractive thus making the island more affordable and more popular."
