A total of 129 electricity meters were found to have been tampered with during the first two months of this year. All, but 19, were in private homes.

Information given in Parliament yesterday shows that the number of such tampered meters rose from 508 in 2005 to 2,708 last year, when a regularisation period was introduced.

The meters found tampered last year included 2,384 which were in houses and 324 which were in commercial premises.

The information was given by Public Investments Minister Austin Gatt in reply to a question by Stefan Buontempo (MLP).
