I refer to the article Shooting Stars with regard to the conservation of the bronze cannon by Heritage Malta. This office has always been in favour of removing bronze artfacts from public spaces in line with conservation theories everywhere.
In fact, we were responsible for the conservation and placing indoors of Algardi's Christ the Saviour, which was on the façade of St John's Co-Cathedral (now in the Cathedral Museum) and Mazzuoli's Papa Pignatelli which was on the façade of Our Lady of Victory church (now in the Museum of Fine Arts).
The article did mention that four small important cannon, which were originally in front of the Main Guard and in Great Siege Square, were removed and given to the museum (and are now in the Armoury), but unfortunately did not mention that this was done by the Valletta Rehabilitation Project eight years ago.
