The Malta Triathlon Association (MTA) will be organising a training week between April 21 and 28 in a bid to encourage more beginners to take up the sport as well as to prepare seasoned athletes for the Triathlon Championships of the Small States of Europe in Cyprus on May 20.
The training week, partly funded through one of the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport assistance schemes, will be in the hands of national coaches Gordon Camenzuli and Dermot Galea.
In 2006, Camenzuli attended a three-month coaching course at Semmelweis University, Budapest, funded by Olympic Solidarity, and this year, Galea attended a Level 2 Coaching Course at Bath University organised by the British Triathlon Federation and sponsored by the International Triathlon Union.
Sports psychologist Adele Muscat will be addressing participants on the importance of mental preparation for competitions.
The emphasis of the training week will be on swimming, arguably the most technical of the three disciplines in triathlon. During one of the sessions, each participant's individual stroke will be analysed.
