A young man and a boy have been put on probation after pleading guilty to stealing cash, cigarettes and stereo equipment from the Siggiewi Nationalist Party club last month.

Magistrate Anthony Vella heard 20-year-old Malvin Catania and a 16-year-old boy plead guilty to stealing from the club and causing damage to amusement machines there on March 24.

The magistrate noted that both young men had filed an early guilty plea, had returned the stolen items and cooperated with police. He also took their young age into account.

The magistrate put Mr Catania on probation for three years and the 16-year-old on probation for a year.

The name of the 16-year-old is not being published because he is a minor.

Police Inspector Marisa Camilleri prosecuted.

Lawyers Daniela Mangion and Franco Debono appeared for the defendants.
