Sell-out show returns to Malta

After playing to four sell-out houses at the Manoel Theatre in 2005, the UK's leading musical theatre concert Beyond the Barricade will be returning to Malta.

London's West End currently boasts more than 20 musicals on stage and Beyond the Barricade will be taking patrons on a whirlwind tour of the best tunes on offer.

The cast of Andy Reiss (musical director of Masquerade's recent hit The Rocky Horror Show), David Fawcett, Katie Leeming and Claire Marlowe, complete with their live band, will recreate the songs and music of the world's most popular musicals.

Known for their superb rendition of the hit songs from Les Miserables, the cast will also present songs from the new shows, including Wicked, Spamalot and Billy Elliot.

In addition to the shows mentioned, the Beyond the Barricade repertoire includes music from Jesus Christ Superstar, Blood Brothers, The Phantom of the Opera, We Will Rock You, Miss Saigon and Chicago.

Mr Reiss was involved with Les Miserables for more than five years, both as performer in Manchester, Dublin, Edinburgh and the West End and as resident director of the UK tour.

Mr Fawcett also recently appeared in the LesMisSaigonGuerre concert at the Hilton Hotel theatre, performing alongside some of Malta's finest singers and the National Orchestra. He appeared in the West End and Manchester productions of Les Miserables.

Ms Leeming appears for the first time at the Manoel Theatre, and came to Beyond the Barricade after having appeared in the world premieres of Tess of the d'Urbervilles and La Cava, and the West End production of Les Miserables.

Ms Marlowe joined Beyond the Barricade earlier this year having left the revival of Whistle Down the Wind at the Palace Theatre, London, where she played the leading role of Swallow.

Beyond the Barricade is widely acknowledged as the principal show of its genre in the UK and during 2007 it embarked on a 120-date tour, which includes a number of outdoor concerts.

The show will be performed between April 27 and 29 and is being brought to Malta by Masquerade Theatre Company.

Booking is open from the Manoel Theatre on 2124 6389.
