Alex Borg reconfirmed his status as the leading player in the local scene when he beat Simon Zammit 7-4 in the final of the national championship on Friday.
It was the fifth successive national success for Borg who had to dig deep into his reserves before having the better of Zammit in an exciting final.
After sharing the opening four frames, Borg looked to have opened a commanding lead when clinching the next three frames to go 5-2 up.
But Zammit, who compiled a top break of 64, failed to throw in the towel and won the next two frames to move just one frame behind Borg.
Borg, who boasts the highest break in the championship with a 138, soon regrouped and after taking the 10th frame, he put the match beyond Zammit's reach when he secured the 11th frame with a run of 60 and win the title.
After the match, Malta Billiards and Snooker Association president Frans Bugeja presented the national championship trophy to Borg.
