A 33-year-old man was yesterday fined Lm500 after he admitted to drink driving and threatening the police.

Twanny Mifsud, of Qormi, pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of alcohol on Sunday at about 10 p.m. and refusing to give a breath sample to the police for testing.

He also admitted to threatening and disobeying several police officers later on at the Hamrun police station, filing a false police report and to the illegal possession of ammunition.

Before handing down judgement, Magistrate Giovanni Grixti heard Police Inspector Mario Tonna, prosecuting, explain that the incident happened when Mr Mifsud drank alcohol while he was on medication.

The officer said Mr Mifsud had claimed he was manhandled by police officers when he (Mr Mifsud) did not so much as have a ruffled hair.

During his arraignment yesterday Mr Mifsud, represented by lawyer Robert Abela, admitted to the charges.

The magistrate fined him Lm500 and ordered him not to approach the police officers he threatened against a Lm100 fine in default.

Lawyer Robert Abela was defence counsel.
