The upcoming visit of the four artistes that make up Beyond the Barricade will be their third to Malta. After scoring a considerable success with their first performances in 2003, they returned a year and a half later with a seasonal offering which they called Christmas With Beyond The Barricade. And now they are back for another three performances at The Manoel Theatre from April 27 to 29.
Their format is simple: Two male singers, two female plus a few musicians. They then go through a repertoire of show tunes... mostly from musicals currently or recently running in the West End of London. Between each number or medley David Fawcett shows the audience that he is not just a half decent baritone, he also possesses the timing of a natural stand-up comedian. The musical director Andy Reiss - (who recently acted in the same capacity for Masquerade's spectacular production of The Rocky Horror Show) - as well as singing, also accompanies the quartet on keyboards. The ladies, Claire Marlow and Katie Leeming both have terrific show voices and belt out the numbers with panache and sheer class.
If you love the atmosphere that a West-End show can generate, BTB is very much for you.
