George Bruno, 41 of Sliema, was conditionally discharged for six months and barred from attending the stadium for a year after being charged with resisting the police and uttering vulgar language at the Ta' Qali football ground on Sunday.

Mr Bruno, a steward with the Valletta football club, stepped in as the police were tying to speak to another steward.

He yesterday pleaded guilty and excused himself for his actions.

Lawyer Anthony Farrugia appeared for the accused.
