A man who spent some 45 minutes trying to steal from a cash machine at a petrol station in Tarxien, on Friday night, was yesterday remanded in custody facing a string of 21 charges.

Jeffrey Pulis, 24, from Paola, was accused of attempted theft, causing voluntary damage and driving recklessly between Friday and Saturday.

He was also charged with attempted grievous bodily harm on Lewis Briffa, whom he tried to stab at Our Lady of Lourdes band club in Paola on Saturday, at 10 p.m., slightly injuring and threatening Mr Briffa as well as insulting him and being in possession of a knife without a licence.

He was further accused of again uttering obscene and threatening language against Mr Briffa at the Fra Antoine de Paule band Club in Paola, at about 11.30 p.m., on Saturday and of relapsing.

Lawyer José Herrera appeared for the accused.

Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.
