Joe Calzaghe made a record 20th successful defence of his WBO super middleweight championship when he stopped American Peter Manfredo Jr in the third round at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Welshman Calzaghe, 35, unleashed a huge number of punches to force official Terry O'Connor to stop the bout against his opponent ranked sixth in the world.

The victory, in front of 35,000 of his home fans, continues Calzaghe's streak as the longest reigning champion in boxing but breaks the British record for number of defences and equals Larry Holmes and Bernard Hopkins as fourth on the all-time list.
