Susan Wilkinson's letter (March 30) leaves me somewhat bewildered! What does she propose we call the citizens of the United States of America? United Stateserers?

The US is the only nation in the Americas that has America in its official name. The United States of Mexico is the official title of Mexico.

Canada is Canada.

When we ask a person from Japan if he is from Asia the answer has to be yes and if you want to probe deeper he will answer, yes Japanese. Imagine if he were to say I am Japanese-Asian!

A Canadian-American would be someone who moved to the United States of America from Canada! Yes! America is also the name of a continent. Two to be precise... North America and South America.

So lighten up Ms Wilkinson and accept the fact that the citizens of the United States of America can only be called Americans whereas those of Canada are called Canadians and those of Mexico are called Mexicans, etc. etc.
