I got the scare of my life last Sunday when I opened The Sunday Times and spotted the colourful brochure of the Cambridge Project. The photomontages of how the project will look say it all.
The negative aesthetic impact which this massive building will have on the Tigné peninsula is immense, keeping in mind that these photos did not show the other two grotesque projects, namely the Town Square tower, which is some 10 floors higher, and the MIDI project, which is one big chunk of massive concrete blocks. It is horrendous, not mentioning the adverse impact all this will have on the neighbourhood and the environs and also on the water, electricity, drainage and road infrastructure.
In the early Nineties, when my family applied to build a four-storey apartment block with penthouse, the application was initially thrown out because they said that the penthouse might be visible from Manoel Island.
Ten years later, we were buried behind the Waterfront Hotel facing Manoel Island. But then to build such structures, which are highly visible from the other side of Valletta does not create a problem! It clearly is a case of two weights and two measures. Need more proof?
