The Ministry for Tourism and Culture intends to set up a European Dance Company to further promote social and artistic integration between dancers from various EU states.

The ministry is hoping the company will be made up of one young dancer from each of the 27 member states and three understudies.

Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said, during a press conference to launch the company, that youngsters from member states would take part in two-, three-month programmes.

The company would aim to bring together different forms of dancing from all over Europe to create a new concept in European dance.

He said the setting up of the European Dance Company would help expose Maltese talent and place Malta on the European cultural map.
