Italian Giorgio Ascan-elli has joined Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso as technical director.

Ascanelli, 48, has spent the last five years as a technical director overseeing Maserati's racing activities but before that worked in F1 with Benetton, McLaren and Ferrari.

The Italian was race engineer at Ferrari to Austrian Gerhard Berger, the former racing driver who is now Toro Rosso's co-owner.
