Prague quartet to perform at the Manoel

The Martinu String Quartet from Prague will give a recital at the Manoel Theatre, in Valletta, on April 10.

The quartet will this year be joined by clarinettist Angus Meryon (right), and together they will be performing works for string quartet and clarinet quintet. This includes the Clarinet Quintets by Mozart and by Brahms, recognised masterpieces of the genre.

The quartet will also perform Prokofiev's String Quartet No. 2 and the String Quartet No. 7 by the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu after whom the quartet is named.

The quartet was formed in 1976 and this is its second visit to Malta.

Mr Meryon is also no stranger to the islands, having performed at the Gozo International Music Festival last year. He has also recorded works by the Maltese composer Joe Vella.

Tickets for the concert may be purchased from the Manoel booking office which can be contacted on 2124 6389 or bookings@teatrumanoel.com.mt
