Drugs found in prison cell

A prisoner who is serving time for murder is to be arraigned in court after some 10 grammes of heroin were allegedly found in four sachets in his prison cell in Division 3.

Police sources said the drug find was made yesterday by Central Hall officials assisted by personnel from the Special Response Team.

It is understood that it is not the first time the same prisoner has faced charges relating to the possession of drugs in prison.

The find follows another made near the visiting area on Sunday, when sniffer dogs located a bag hidden behind a stone near the entrance to the visiting area.

On inspection, the bag was found to contain around 30 grammes of heroin. The find was made at about 2.15 p.m.

Both cases are being investigated by drug squad police.
