A Maltese delegation, which included representatives of a number of public entities, visited the Joint Research Centre's (JRC) Ispra site in the north of Italy.
The delegation included officials from the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, the Water Services Corporation, Enemalta, the Malta Standards Authority, the University of Malta and EuroMedITI. It was headed by a representative of the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST).
The delegation had meetings with JRC researchers in the laboratories of the Institutes for Environment and Sustainability, Protection and Security of the Citizen and Health and Consumer Protection.
The visit was aimed at highlighting priority science and technology research areas for Malta and exploring how these could serve to trigger new collaborations with the JRC, through enhanced participation in research projects implemented by the JRC institutes and participation in European networks run by the JRC.
Discussions were held on ground water quality, climate change issues in an island environment, agricultural and environmental monitoring systems, renewable energies, air quality and human language technologies.
