Latest figures produced in the Labour Force Survey showed that the government was failing to create enough full time jobs, Karl Chircop, opposition spokesman on social protection, has said.

He said the only thing the government could boast about was growth in part-time jobs as the only occupation - but that was not enough for families to enjoy proper living standards.

Dr Chircop said the workers' right to a decent living was being eroded because they were being forced to accept working fewer hours.

He insisted that part-time work should be a supplement to full time occupations. But part-time work was being used as a means by employers to cut costs, rather than improve flexibility.

Dr Chircop observed that, according to the survey, the number of those looking for a job had remained over 11,000 and the percentage of active people remained unchanged and well below the European average.
