Production company Horizons has launched a 45-minute DVD, entitled Vari, telling the history of some of Malta and Gozo's most evocative Good Friday statues.

Available in Maltese and English, the DVD features the Good Friday statues of four churches in Malta and six in Gozo. Each set of statues are dealt with in separate segments, unveiling a mine of information about the workmanship, history and intricacies of the statues, cherished figures in local Holy Week traditions.

Among the statues featured in the DVD are the Redeemer of Senglea, and the Our Lady of Sorrows of Ta' Giezu of Valletta, both the object of widespread devotion. Keith Abela gathered the impressive footage.

Produced with the collaboration of the Curia, the DVD was produced by Kenneth Mizzi for Horizons. Vincent Zammit's script is narrated by Alfred Mallia. Joe Brown was responsible for the music, Alan Paul Mizzi for the editing.
