Your reporting of the press conference held by the action committee against the upgraded waste recycling plant at Sant'Antnin carried untruths which are being perpetuated by the action committee. The action committee was reported as saying that MEPA is withholding a report compiled by the audit officer.

This blatant lie is being gratuitously perpetuated through your medium. MEPA made it clear on several occasions that it neither publishes not withholds any report by the audit officer. This was confirmed, if confirmation were necessary, by the audit officer in a report in The Times (February 27) and the whole sequence of events was further confirmed by the Ombudsman's Office in a press release issued on February 28.

To quote from this press release, in translation: "The Ombudsman would like to state that it is not true that he gave any advice to MEPA. It is not true that MEPA was given direction to block an Audit Office report. It is true that he gave advice to the Audit Office."

These simple facts do not fall within the 'truth repertoire' of the action committee.
