While on my way to work recently at around 7.20 a.m. I was stopped by two wardens saying they needed to inspect my car's exhaust emission levels. They carried out the test and the car failed. Surprisingly, I had taken the car for a Vehicle Road-worthiness Test (VRT) a month earlier and it had passed.
I was still issued with a Lm20 fine and was told to take the car to a test centre. The test centre personnel said they had 20 similar complaints a week but could not do anything about it because they tested emission levels with different equipment than the ADT's.
How is it that the ADT authorises VRT centres to carry out tests and then carries out different ones itself?
I had already paid Lm8.70 for a VRT - part of that goes to the ADT as an administration charge.
