I am sorry Ms Catherine Abela did not understand the gist of my letter (The Sunday Times, March 11). My reaction was not because she appeared on television being concerned about Munxar, but because of the current state of Lija. Also my criticism was directed at the whole council and not just her.
Can anyone deny that the post box mentioned in my letter was not covered in cement since the paving of the square was completed, or that there is dog business in the streets of Lija, or that heavy vehicles enter streets where they are prohibited, or that noisy vehicles are driven through the village at any time of the day or that there are sites that resemble a scene after World War II?
What is Lija council doing about these shortcomings? Surely the Lija mayor and all the councillors see them for themselves. I admit that the post box was painted the day after my letter was published. I would have admired Ms Abela more had she said that she had reported these infringements to the council. If only everyone of us showed a love for our country through action.
