The Malta UNESCO Youth Association (MUYA) was officially established at an extraordinary general meeting held on February 15 after the UNESCO National Commission in Malta approved its setting up .

Its first committee is composed of Anson D. Aquilina, president, Sarah A. Suda, secretary general, Istivan Spiteri, treasurer, Joanna Bonnici, PR co-ordinator and Maurizio Cappitta, member.

The association aims to work in the field of developing culture, education, science and communication and spreading the ideas of UNESCO among youth and adults in Malta and internationally by means of training courses, seminars and exchanges on a national and international level and various publications.

It has already started working on its first project, which is focusing on cultural diversity and inter-faith and inter-cultural dialogue.

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, was founded in 1945 and is today present in 192 countries. It works to create the conditions for genuine dialogue based upon respect for shared values and the dignity of each civilisation and culture.
