One of 19 people arraigned over four years ago and charged with drug conspiracy was granted bail yesterday. Charles Muscat, known as Il-Pips, was granted bail against a Lm15,000 deposit and a personal guarantee to the same amount.

Despite this, Mr Muscat will remain behind bars. In 1999, he had been jailed for 25 years after jurors found him guilty of the murder of Emmanuel Sultana and causing the death of Alfred Grima when he seriously injured him during a shooting incident in 1994.

Police Superintendent Neil Harrison and Inspector Norbert Ciappara prosecuted. Lawyer Josè Herrera and Veronique Dalli were defence counsel.
