Minimum water pressure threshold to be set

The Water Services Corporation is holding talks with the Malta Resources Authority to establish the minimum water pressure which should reach all domestic water metres, Public Investments Minister Austin Gatt said in Parliament.

He said this minimum threshold is expected to be between one and 1.5 bar, which would normally be adequate for water to reach between three and five storeys. The minister was replying to a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Franco Galea, who asked whether the WSC had had complaints about water pressure in Sliema.

Dr Gatt said Sliema was divided into 12 zones for water distribution purposes and water pressure could vary because of the height of buildings and the position of every street. In some areas, pressure reached as much as six bar.

He asked Mr Galea to forward any information on particular problems so that they could be investigated by the WSC.
