Enemalta has informed employees in the gas division, which is about to be privatised, they will be given a choice whether to remain with the corporation or not when the privatisation takes place.
This means their conditions, as stipulated in the collective agreement, would remain in force, Enemalta said in the letter sent on Tuesday.
Employees were told that as the privatisation process evolves, they will be informed of what working conditions the new employer will be offering so that they can then make their choice.
The corporation said none of the employees will be forced or encouraged to leave.
The Public Investments Ministry said a statement by the General Workers' Union earlier this week - which accused the corporation of not informing it about developments in the privatisation process - tried to sow unnecessary uncertainty as the government had already publicly declared the gas division employees will have a choice as to whether to stay with Enemalta or not.
