Swieqi traffic arrangements

I would like to express my full agreement with the comments made by Joe and Anna Busuttil in their letter (March 24) regarding the new traffic arrangements in Swieqi.

These modifications may require fine tuning but the fact remains that Triq is-Sidra should be a one-way street as it cannot function properly otherwise. The residents of Triq is-Sidra and other individuals using this street are fully aware that two vehicles coming from opposite directions cannot pass at the same time. Until recently, traffic jams and congestions occurred on a daily basis. One can imagine the chaotic situation when the route bus and heavy vehicles made use of this particular street, rendering the road unsafe for both drivers and pedestrians.

The residents of Triq is-Sidra have been experiencing the above for many years. In fact, two petitions have been presented to the local council since 2000. Finally, the one-way system has been introduced and for this reason I would like to thank the outing local council led by Alfred Curmi for giving this matter their full attention.
