Teachers' Day at St Monica School is a day much awaited by students and teachers alike. It is an event on the school calendar that takes place every two years.

On Teachers' Day we didn't have assembly as usual. We had Mass in Theresa Spinelli Hall for the whole school. The hall was crowded. All primary and secondary students were there. But there was not one single teacher.

The school monitors were in charge! Mrs. Pace, our headmistress, told us what we had to do. When the teachers came in we had to clap our hands with all our strength.

In a minute or two, the teachers approached the hall smiling happily and we all gave them a big hand. A lot of children started screaming excitedly. When we all settled down, Mass started. We began by remembering Monica Zammit, a teacher who died a year ago; dead silence fell upon the room. We all felt sad at that moment. We then saw a video-clip about a teacher who was new to his students. The school showed it to us to make us realise that a teacher makes a lot of sacrifices in order to teach us. During the offertory all the teachers offered objects related to their subjects.

Following Mass the teachers entertained us by organising a very funny show. The show looked like the Malta Song for Europe festival. It was very entertaining! It had a variety of singers from Claudette Pace to Renato. Oh, how funny they were! We laughed our heads off! Never in my life had I seen our teachers do such silly things. We couldn't even breathe with laughter! We also had a power-point presentation showing photographs of our teachers as children and teenagers. Some of us could not believe our eyes when we saw them!

It appeared that the teachers had fun too as they looked very pleased. Teachers' Day at our school is a special day when we as students, show our appreciation to our teachers for everything they do for us.
