Charged with causing injury

A man was yesterday charged with seriously injuring his former partner's friend when he allegedly punched her and put out a cigarette in her face.

Victor Testa, 44, of St Julians pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring Alexsandra Abdilla by punching her in the face and on the head and extinguishing the cigarette under her left eye.

He was also charged with using telecommunication equipment for illicit purposes, breaching the peace and relapsing.

Police Inspector Anthony Cassar, prosecuting, explained that the incident happened on Sunday afternoon at the Zabbar residence of Mr Testa's partner.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna turned down Mr Testa's request for bail at this stage.

Lawyers Jason Azzopardi and Kris Busietta were defence counsel.
