A 57-year-old man, who last year was charged with sending a threatening letter to a judge, was yesterday arraigned for breaching his bail conditions.

Austin Xuereb, 57, of Rabat, had been charged with sending the letter to Mr Justice Giannino Caruana Demajo and had been granted bail under a number of conditions, including that he signs every Saturday at his local police station.

But, the prosecution and the defence team informed the court, Mr Xuereb failed to sign the bail book last Saturday because it slipped his mind. Consequently, he had to be charged with breaching bail conditions.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna ordered that the case be decided during the Rabat district sitting. In the meantime, Mr Xuereb was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Superintendent Carmelo Bartolo prosecuted.

Lawyers Edward Zammit Lewis and Roberto Montalto were defence counsel.
