Hibs Medsea confirmed their fine moment in women's basketball after having the better of Depiro to clinch their fourth honour of the season - the Louis Borg Cup. Last weekend, Hibs completed a 114-93 win over two legs.

Both sides were still in contention after Friday's first leg as Hibs just managed to edge their rivals 43-41 in a clash that saw the Paolites making their experience count in key moments of the match.

Though Depiro had Joselle Cardona and Antoinette Borg back in their side, in the end the lack of experience of most of their young players proved to be their downfall.

After a shaky start on Friday, Hibs found their rhythm to lead 10-4 by the end of the first quarter.

Depiro came back but after reducing the deficit to a single point 16-15, seven consecutive points helped Hibs to re-establish their lead - 23-18 at half-time.

Again it was Depiro who had the better start to the third quarter, taking a 27-23 lead after the opening minutes. Depiro's lead was whittled down to 35-34 following a Hibs' three-pointer on the stroke of time.

The match continued to be a ding-dong affair with Hibs just managing to clinch victory in the very last minute of the first leg.

Hibs lifted their game by a few notches for the second leg on Sunday. They started on a strong note as they potted ten consecutive points to open a commanding 16-6 lead.

Depiro tried to recover lost ground as the second quarter got underway but Hibs were well in control. They held a 41-28 lead at half-time and led 51-33 before the last quarter got underway.

Depiro tried to make a contest of it and, inspired by the hard-working Greta Zarb, pulled back to 52-42.

But Hibs were soon back to their best to administer their lead before racing to a comfortable 71-52 win that secured them the title.
