The Programme for Culturally Responsive Education within the Department of Education Studies is organising a seminar on Thursday at 4.30 p.m. at the National Curriculum Centre in Hamrun on 'Respecting Diversity: A Culturally Responsive Education'.
The papers to be discussed include: 'The Multi-Ethnic School' by Andrew Azzopardi, 'Teacher Education for Diversity' by Paul A. Bartolo, 'The Educational Needs of "Undocumented" Migrant Children' by Katrine Camilleri and Juan Camilleri, 'Voicing Myself, Voicing the Other: Can The Migrant Speak?' by Simone Galea and 'A Comparative Study of Classroom Factors between mono-cultural and Multicultural Maltese Classroom' by Brian Vassallo.
The Programme for Culturally Responsive Education is committed to promote the principles and practices of culturally responsive education and to raise educational issues related to the recognition, understanding and engagement with culturally diverse others.
The seminar is one of the first activities of the programme. The presentation of papers by a group of educational researchers aims to create a forum for discussion on educational issues related to diversity.
Participants at the seminar will be encouraged to discuss ways through which education could respectfully respond to diversity.
