Professor Thomas Stolz from the University of Bremen, Germany, will be presenting a series of three lectures connected with the Maltese language as a guest of the Department of Maltese at the University.
Professor Stolz, who holds the Chair of Linguistics, has been teaching Maltese for some years there and on occasions has visited Malta accompanied by his students, who engaged in research on Maltese with students from the Maltese Department.
In October Professor Stolz will realise one of his greatest dreams when he launches L-Ghaqda Internazzjonali tal-Lingwistika Maltija, an international organisation based in Bremen with the aims of fostering Maltese studies and bringing together scholars of Maltese spread over Europe and the world.
Interest in the Maltese language is now steadily gaining ground in international linguistic fora.
The first lecture on pidgin and Creole languages will be held at Centru Vassalli (Gateway Building, Hall E) at the University tomorrow at 7 p.m., on international Maltese linguistics at the Erin Serracino Inglott Hall on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and on linguistic typology at Centru Vassalli on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The lectures will be in English, but questions may be put to the speaker also in Maltese.
