The Service of Co-operation and Cultural Action (SCAC) is organising a French Week on campus at the University of Malta, Msida, between tomorrow and Friday, to promote academic exchanges between Malta and France.

The SCAC will meet Maltese students to inform them about the services that are offered and the various opportunities that France proposes through exchanges and higher education programmes. Information about programmes offered by French universities in English and French language bursaries will be available at the stand in the central quadrangle between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Tomorrow: at noon, Professor Yves Daudet will give a lecture on international relations and law, "Current aspects of the Security Council of the United Nations", at Sir Temi Zammit Hall; at 3 p.m. the film L'Auberge Espagnol will be shown at Gateway Hall A; and at 7.30 p.m., Cinescena by Dr Gloria Lauri-Lucente and Celaine Buhagiar will be aired on Campus FM.

Tuesday: at 11 a.m., Professor Daudet gives a talk on "The process of elaboration of International Law, with special reference to the Law of the Sea" at the International Maritime Law Institute; at 1.30 p.m., French Books, by Charles Xuereb, will be aired on Campus FM; at 5 p.m., the film Le Petit Lieutenant will be shown at Gateway Hall E.

Wednesday: at 9 a.m., lecture on "Constitutional law and the functioning of the political institutions and political systems in France", by Professor Jean-Yves Chérot at Gateway Hall A (he will give another lecture on the subject at 10 a.m. at the Lecture Centre, room 116); at 1 p.m., the film Les Mauvais Jouers will be shown at lecture theatre 2; at 1.30 p.m. Campus FM will broadcast L-Ilbies l-Imperatur, French Artists and Art, by Dr Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci.

Thursday: at 9 a.m., lecture on "The European Union social model", by Professor Pierre Maziere at Lecture Theatre 1; from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., conference, film screening, and discussion on "Exploring Globalisation and International Citizenship", at the Lecture Centre, room 217; at 1 p.m., the film La Petite Jérusalem will be shown at Lecture Theatre 1; at 5.45 p.m., Professor Maziere will lecture on "The social model in France and Europe" at SAS Radisson Bay Point Resort, St Julian's; at 7.30 p.m., Campus FM will broadcast Il-Belt Valletta, the French period in Malta, by Vincent Zammit.

Friday: at 3 p.m., the film L'Esquive will be shown at Lecture Theatre 1; at 7.30 p.m., "Découpage", French viticulture, fashion, music, by Anton Farrugia, on Campus FM.

Jean Vivies, vice-president of the University of Aix en Provence-Marseille, and Sophie Vallas, will be in Malta between tomorrow and Tuesday to present the setting-up of a Master's degree in translation and to organise student and lecturers exchanges.

Hervé Tilly, who is charge of the European research programmes within the French Ministry of Education and Research, will be meeting his counterparts in Malta to discuss common scientific policy.

A number of exhibitions will be displayed around the University throughout the week.
