In this year's FISEC Games in Hungary, Malta will be taking part in eight different sport - track and field, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, handball, futsal and swimming.
This was announced by the Malta FISEC chairman Brother Martin Borg FSC during a meeting for coaches and officials ahead of the 59th edition of the sports festival for students in Nyirgaza between July 21 and 25.
During the meeting, Brother Martin thanked the local sports organisations that have always supported the initiatives taken by the FISEC Council and which also consider the Games as an ideal platform where young athletes can obtain their first international experience.
He announced that in Hungary, Malta will be represented by a large contingent of around 100 people consisting of officials, coaches and athletes. Brother Martin also claimed that the large participation this year is important in view of the 2008 Games which will be held in Malta.
David Azzopardi, FISEC Technical Director, gave details on Nyirgaza and the facilities made available. He also confirmed the names of the selected coaches within FISEC Malta.
These are: Sandro Farrugia (basketball), Godfrey Grima (Futsal), Gino Mallia (athletics), Gail Rizzo (swimming), David Pace (table tennis), Edward Gatt (volleyball), Joe Tanti (handball) and Tony Cilia Pisani (tennis).
Carmen Carabott, FISEC Malta General Secretary, spoke about the travelling arrangements while FISEC International vice president Louis Borg commented on the present work being carried out by the international bureau.
